According to Hindu mythology Shivratri is celebrated as wedding night of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Also there is a believe that on this night Lord Shiva has performed Tandav Nritya.

Shiv Ratri is celebrated on 14th day (Chaturdashi Tithi of Hindu Calendar) of Krishna Paksha of Hindu magha month every year.
